CHAPTER TWENTY ONE ESSAY QUESTIONS

PLEASE CHOOSE ONLY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. Complete one of the case study exercises for this chapter found on the companion website for our text.

2. Choose an expert with whose work you are familiar—for example, an athlete or performer, a teacher, a businessperson, or a parent. Note the expert’s age and experience, then describe the expert’s performance in detail, emphasizing the ways in which the expert’s performance differs from that of a novice in the same field. Identify any differences that seem to be age-related.

3. Discuss the role of intuition in expert cognition. How do experts use intuition? How does it differ from the way novices might employ intuition? What are possible outcomes of the reliance on intuition by experts?
