This week's field trip focuses on a park in an suburban setting.

If possible, choose a suburban park in a residential area of your community.

The goal of this week's observations is to record the birds that you see and to notice the different niches the birds occupy. A variety of animals can inhabit an area because each organism has its own niche.

This week's field focus is on details of the bird's posture. Notice how the bird walks or how the bird perches on a branch or a wire.

Note: an ecological niche is the totality of an organism's adaptations: its use of resources, the lifestyle to which it is fitted in its community, how an organism uses materials in its environment and how it interacts with other organisms.
