This week's field trip focuses on a park in an urban setting.

If possible, choose a park in a “downtown” area of your community. Next week we will focus on a suburban park.

The goal of this week's observations is to record the birds that you see and to notice any interactions between the birds and the humans and/or other animals in the park. For example: Do any of the birds approach people? Were people feeding birds in the park? If so, what were they feeding the birds? Were any of the birds affected by the presence of squirrels or dogs?

This week's field focus is on details of the bird's head. Many birders believe that details of the head provide the most useful information when you are trying to differentiate between two similar species. Look closely at color patterns on the bird's face and the shape of the beak.
