Week 2 Field Trip

This week's field trip focuses on identifying the birds in your neighborhood.

Consider the different types of habitat that are in your neighborhood: residential areas, commercial areas, uninhabited areas (empty lots, etc.), parks, etc. Select a route that will allow you to see a variety of habitats. Plan to spend at least two hours observing birds in your neighborhood.

Practice using field marks to help you identify the birds that you see in your neighborhood.

Field marks are unique combinations of pattern, color, and shape that characterize each bird species. Field marks are used to identify birds in the field.

Field marks are discussed in detail in Manual of Ornithology p. 274 - 275
